I’ve never associated my feelings with specific places until I spent the summer working on Mackinac Island. Although the tiny island is only 8.2 miles around, every unpaved trail that was discovered during a late night bike ride, every sunset that was viewed from a hammock over a cliff, every bluff filled with visitors who would come and go, every rock that was thrown off the state dock and skipped along Lake Huron, every inch instills in me feelings of fulfillment and belonging. The island gives me hope, and I hope one day, everyone finds their island.
