I chose this photo because it highlights two of my favorite things: fishing and family. Fishing has taught me important life lessons, including patience, determination, and simplicity. Although fishing requires hours and hours of waiting, you might be able to catch something spectacular if you wait long enough; but waiting for a fish to bite does not make you a fisherman. You still have to reel in the fishing line until the fish finally boards the boat, which can be both tiring and painful. Nonetheless, sticking with it can provide a great reward just like many things in life. So here is a cheesy reminder for whatever you might be struggling with: stick with it, do not give up, and success will come. It is always an accomplished feeling releasing the fish back into the ocean because you have the privilege of having a little bit better of an understanding of the perplexing and beautiful life beneath the surface. However, nothing beats the feeling of watching my 86 year-old grandfather reel in a fish with the biggest smile on his face and not a care in the world.
